ANNOUNCEMENTS

Friday, August 17, 2012 1:10:00 PM
Dear Cloonan Families,

It is with great sadness that we write to inform you of the death of Mr. Sal Buchetto, a Cloonan teacher who retired in 2010 after gracing our halls and Science labs for over 35 years.  He was a friendly and popular teacher who touched the lives of generations of Cloonan students, parents and teachers.  He will be greatly missed.

In this time of sadness, please know that we are doing everything possible to support our staff and students as we deal with this tragedy. The school district has provided counselors for staff who needed to talk through the situation.

Here is a link for parents to talk with kids about death: http://www.nasponline.org/resources/crisis_safety/deathgrief.pdf.  You can find out more information through the Families Centers website at http://www.familycenters.org/.   We also want to share some guidelines for how you can help your child cope with his or her grief. Please look to http://www.joshrojas.org/guidelines.asp, http://www.recover-from-grief.com/grieving-children.html, or http://www.thealcove.org/grief_guidelines_for_parents.html for some helpful suggestions. There is also local resource called The Den for Grieving Kids.

Please let us know if there is anything else that we can do for your child. The grieving process does not have a timeline. Reactions may be delayed or come in unexpected ways. Be assured that whatever support is needed will be available whenever it is needed. Thank you for your support and prayers. Please do not wear anything black. Donations to help the family can be made here http://www.gofundme.com/fwkpws

S4 Study Skills

As you may know, Cloonan Middle School is working with S4 Study Skills to offer your 6th grade student foundational study skills that will support their study practice and help them achieve greater academic success. There is no charge for the program.

As such, today was the first of the ten-week-ten hour program. To best demonstrate how the skills will benefit your student, we are working with the 6th grade social studies teachers, Mr Humphrey and Ms Bolcer, and using their materials to demonstrate how to use and apply the skills.

But we would like help and support as well! Please use this guide as a way to encourage your student to show what they know, and actively use the skills.  For more information on what was covered on week one click HERE. For more information on what was covered on week three click HERE.

Leave A Legacy

Leave A Legacy

Cement your child’s legacy at Cloonan by purchasing a commemorative plaque(s) to be permanently displayed in the school’s front entry.  Purchasing a plaque is a great way to leave a lasting student/family legacy on the walls of Cloonan, beautify the school, convey Cloonan school pride … all while raising funds to support the school.

Each 2”x 8” plaque can be customized with up to three lines of text. You can consider including your student or family name, year of graduation, nickname, sports played, or favorite saying.  You may also consider customizing a plaque for each of your Cloonan students (including former students), in honor of a special staff member, or in memory of a former student.  These plaques can be ordered at any time throughout the year.  Click HERE for the order form.   Help us build Cloonan’s Legacy Wall … order your plaque today!
