8Th Grade All District Band Concert

March 26th, 2015

7:00 pm

Westhill High School

Cement your child’s legacy at Cloonan by purchasing a commemorative plaque(s) to be permanently displayed in the school’s front entry.  Purchasing a plaque is a great way to leave a lasting student/family legacy on the walls of Cloonan, beautify the school, convey Cloonan school pride … all while raising funds to support the school.

Each 2”x 8” plaque can be customized with up to three lines of text. You can consider including your student or family name, year of graduation, nickname, sports played, or favorite saying.  You may also consider customizing a plaque for each of your Cloonan students (including former students), in honor of a special staff member, or in memory of a former student.  These plaques can be ordered at any time throughout the year.  Click HERE for the order form.   Help us build Cloonan’s Legacy Wall … order your plaque today!

The National Science Bowl (NSB) middle school competition

began in 2002 as a highly competitive science education and academic

event among teams of middle school students who compete in a

fast-paced verbal forum to solve technical problems and answer questions

in all branches of science and math.

Each team is composed of four students, one alternate student,

and a coach.  Regional and national events encourage student

involvement in math and science activities of importance to

the Department of Energy and the Nation.

Cloonan Scholar Changing Lives one Hard Drive at a Time

Creative Connections

This year’s 7th grade students are participating in the Art Link program with the Creative Connections organization. Creative Connections facilitates thousands of partnerships between school classes in the USA and their counterparts all over the world. The students created art pieces that reflected their life and culture, and exchanged their work with our partner class in Hiroshima, Japan. The cost of the entire program this year was generously funded by our partner school. This month, the students are examining and enjoying the art from overseas, gaining new insights their own and their partner’s cultures. Finally, the students will share their insights with one another by posting thoughtful written responses and photos.

Based on their effort on their artwork, artist’s description sheet, and behavior in class, a group of students were invited to attend a special extension of this cultural exchange with a class of 7th grade Japanese students in Greenwich, CT. They went to the Japanese School of Greenwich to learn about Japanese art and culture. They worked together to create two friendship quilts to be displayed at both schools in celebration of the occasion. This quilt as well as copies of the 7th grade Art Link drawings and partner art work will be on display at Cloonan in March.

Successful Study Skills 4 Students

As you may know, Cloonan Middle School is working with S4 Study Skills to offer your 6th grade student foundational study skills that will support their study practice and help them achieve greater academic success. There is no charge for the program.

As such, today was the first of the ten-week-ten hour program. To best demonstrate how the skills will benefit your student, we are working with the 6th grade social studies teachers, Mr Humphrey and Ms Bolcer, and using their materials to demonstrate how to use and apply the skills.

But we would like help and support as well! Please use this guide as a way to encourage your student to show what they know, and actively use the skills.  For more information on what was covered on week one click HERE, week three click HERE, week four click HERE, week five click HERE and for week six click HERE.
